Water shots and waves at Froggies beach

I love shooting in the water … its so much fun.
Even on an average day of surf you can come up with some good results.
These shots are taken at a little beach close to Duranbah and Snapper Rocks.
On Monday the 11th January 2010
Its usually just a close out with heaps of backwash waves off the rocks.
Which makes it even more fun and interesting.

This morning I finally got back in the water and took a few water shots…
Im heading to Bali in a few weeks and I thought that I should try and get a bit of fitness happening . Ive been woeking a lot and sitting at the computer way too much… but hey … gotta pay the bills right?
Duranbah was fun, about 3 feet and there were a few nice clean little barrels coming through.
The peaks were shifting around a bit and the water was nice and clear.
Ill be trying to get out there as much as possible in the next few weeks.
I dont want to be huffing and puffing if I get caught inside in 6 foot Indo waves…

Late afternoon session at Duranbah , Kirra Teams Challenge 2009

Surfing Photography is really a lot like surfing. It takes a lot for the conditions to come together , but when they do it can be very rewarding.

For the last few days Ive been covering the Rip Curl Kirra Teams Challenge.
Yesterday the conditions were less than desirable all day, but as everyone was packing up . I noticed the sun had come out and was lighting up the surf with a nice warm light.

I spotted young local Jack Freestone smashing a few lips so I grabbed my gear and headed down there.

The waves were pretty much the only fault with shooting conditions .

I was using my trusty Canon Eos 30D and my favourite lens Canon EF L series 400mm F5.6
the thing I love about this lens is that it is light enough to hand hold and gives you a wopping 640mm focal length with the 30D.

All of these shots were taken hand held with this gear ..As you can see the images are tack sharp.

Ive been down at Duranbah ths last few days shooting the Rip Curl Kirra Teams Challenge and the waves have been unbelievably good.

You can see the bulk of the contest photos here on the Kirra Surf Riders web site.

I have picked out a few of my favourites from the last few days and posted them here. Some of these pics are to do with the contest. Some are just random images that I have captured of what ever is going on at the beach at the time.
